After more than a year we go again to a winery that impacted us greatly. Someone we trust recommended us to go, and  that was a good start. They told us we would live a very special experience. And that was enough for deciding to visit them.

Finca Las Caraballas is in Medina del Campo, and grow Verdejo grapes mainly. They are doing  a very good job recovering the quality of the soil. As time of visiting was coming we realized we were not going to a visit conventional winery more.

They said they preferred the whole visit on the vineyard, even the tasting. They preferred not to visit their facilities. That everything they were proud of, was on the vineyard. Of course that they did their best their facilities, but that all this project was based of what was happening in the vineyard. DSCN4679This is something you hear quite often, and we agree with that. But not so many wineries focus the visits just in the vineyards. And then we visited them. On the first half an hour they did not say a word about grapes or wine. They just talked about ecology, and land recovery, about the huge effort they had done since 2007 for preparing the soil for improving the quality of the grapes they grow. They also talked about a program of breeding raptors. They used them as a key tool for preserving the vineyard. Its speech was beutiful.

I asked him if after all this effort there was an answer of nature. His answer was overwhelming. “Of course Nature has answered with all life you can feel and hear on this land, that you will not feel if you visit a conventional vineyard. The grapes and wines taste as they used to taste on this area 50 years ago. We are natural wines defenders, but we think there should not be a label upon us because we do what everybody was doing 50 years ago. We do not do anything special. It’s the other winemakers that have changed”.

When you hear such a speech you get amazed. And when you drink their wines you begin to understand everything they say.

We wish to have such a beautiful day as last time. We will probably do some pruning, in order to understand better how important this activity is.

And from there we go to a very good restaurant in Medina del campo to have a lamb.

After lunch we will make a guided visit to the Castle of la Mota. On this castle we will enjoy of one of the most professional guided visit of the whole Castilla y León.

We think we are going to make a very nice visit in which we consider we are going to get very satisfied.
